Macron says ‘no doubt’ Islamic terrorism behind Mulhouse attack
After Saturday’s deadly attack in Mulhouse, French President Emmanuel Macron assumes that the act was an Islamist one.
“In view of the terrorist’s statement, there is no doubt that this was an Islamist act of terror,” Macron said in a video statement.
He expressed his condolences to the family of the victim. At the same time, Macron said that he and the government were determined to continue working to eradicate terrorism in France.
On Saturday afternoon, a man in Mulhouse in the Alsace region attacked police officers, shouting “Allahu akbar” (meaning ‘God is greatest’ in Arabic), according to the anti-terrorism prosecutor.
The attacker fatally wounded a passer-by who intervened. He also injured three police officers.
The alleged perpetrator was detained and taken into police custody.
The anti-terrorism prosecutor is investigating the crime in the eastern French city near the German border.
