Live updates: Kari Lake takes aim at media during CPAC

National security adviser Mike Waltz is set to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Friday, amid backlash over President Trump’s approach to ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

Waltz will speak a day after Vice President Vance, who stunned the U.S.’s European allies at the Munich Security Conference last week with a speech that took aim at what he framed as the continent’s quashing of free speech, while only briefly mentioning Ukraine.

Elon Musk was another Thursday highlight, bringing a chainsaw with him on stage. Also getting a hero’s welcome: people pardoned by Trump for Jan. 6 offenses.

The Senate pulled an all-nighter, adopting a budget resolution intended to serve as a blueprint to deliver the first part of Trump’s agenda. In the wee hours, Senators voted 52-48 along party lines on the resolution after a marathon overnight voting session. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) voted against the measure.

The president’s Friday will include a lunch with Vance, the swearing-in of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and signing more executive orders.
