Hot on the heels of the Gap x Sandy Liang collab that sold out at a predictably rapid clip, Gap Inc.’s creative director Zac Posen has worked his magic yet again: in the form of an Old Navy capsule collection created with famed fashion designer Anna Sui, marking the brand’s inaugural designer partnership.
“Anna is a true American icon — fun, joyful, rock ‘n’ roll, and with the coolest taste in fashion,” Posen said in a press release. “She has infused this collection with everything the Old Navy community loves: energy, joy, and a spirit of fun.”
Sui’s designs can best be described as sitting at the intersection between the femme and the grunge, and Old Navy is Americana-coded through and through. What happens when these powerhouses come together? The proof is in the pudding, with the pudding being a sweeping assortment of pieces that are both nostalgia-laced and prepared to serve the needs of modern-day tastemakers.
While many of the most in-demand picks (modeled by British singer PinkPantheress, the face of the launch) have already sold out — why are we not surprised? — there are still tons more on the Old Navy e-shelves that you can and should take advantage of. It’s a shock everything here was ideated and created in just six months, as each item exudes an incredible attention to detail with every stitch (think of shopping the drop as scoring a premium subscription to Old Navy, as each offering manages to take the brand’s silhouettes and fabrics to a more refined level).
The Old Navy x Anna Sui Button-Down Applique Top serves as a prime example. Capable of complementing your straight-leg jeans and favorite pair of cowboy boots, the top boasts a chic lace trim and floral applique detailing that make it a personality statement in its own right. It’s dainty and coquettish in a purple-pink Dahlia shade, but, for more versatility, Creme De La Creme and Black Jack are also worthy options.
Other collection standouts include the range of suede separates that will help you tap into the hottest fabric of fall while acing the boho-edgy aesthetic. The Vegan Suede Seamed Mini Skirt is a match made in heaven for your patent leather booties, bomber jacket, and suede-swathed designer handbags this season. Alternatively, ditch the bomber and go with Old Navy x Anna Sui‘s own Vegan Suede Coat: trimmed with faux fur and featuring the kind of tailoring that will make you think its price tag lies somewhere in the four digits (the outerwear also comes in leather, and we can’t decide which finish we love more).
And if it’s a trendy, early fall dress you’re after, choices include the Vegan Suede Mini Dress with its attractive neckline; the ideal-for-layering Sheer Mini Dress with floral motifs; the Crepe V-Neck Ruffle Maxi Dress that gives off “I live on a ranch” energy while being able to mesh flawlessly with Doc Martens; and, an editor favorite, the Sleeveless Denim Mini Dress that Old Navy recommends wearing overtop the collaboration‘s new V-Neck Floral Lace Top in Sea Salt.
If ever there was a one-stop shop for designer seasonal finds that can flatter both you and your wallet, Old Navy’s latest endeavor is just that. Need a new canvas tote for leveling up your farmers market hauls? You got it. Looking to channel your inner Audrey (Hepburn)? The Old Navy x Anna Sui Square Scarf is here to make you look adorable during the colder months. Perchance a denim reset is calling your name; in that case, look no further than the Slim Boot Cut Jeans, which ditch boring bottoms styles in favor of a flower-powered print.
Pay close attention to the selections here, and you’ll notice a symbolic through line: the butterfly. According to Gap Inc., it’s a favorite of Sui’s and carries deep meaning in her life as a representation of “creativity and personal growth,” as well as “a sense of joy and freedom.”
Cheers to the joy and freedom you’ll find once you add everything your heart desires to cart from this monumental, instant-hit of a release.
