Israeli military says Palestinians killed in Gaza despite ceasefire

The Israeli military said on Monday that its forces had killed two Palestinians in the Gaza Strip despite the ceasefire, saying the individuals posed a threat to its soldiers.

In one incident in the north of the sealed-off territory, several people crossed the so-called yellow line behind which the Israeli military has withdrawn.

The group placed suspicious objects near Israeli soldiers, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Israeli troops attacked the group and killed one Palestinian while the remaining people fled the scene.

In a separate incident, a Palestinian was killed after approaching Israeli soldiers, having crossed the yellow line.

According to the Hamas-controlled civil defence agency, three Palestinians were killed on Monday while trying to return to their homes. The incidents are said to have occurred in Beit Lahia and the Shujaiya neighbourhood of eastern Gaza City.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, several people were also injured in the incident in Shujaiya when the Israeli army attacked a group with a drone.

The information provided by both sides cannot be independently verified.

There have been similar incidents with fatalities in recent weeks despite the ceasefire, which came into force on October 10 after more than two years of war.
